I refer to Labor’s promise to build a swimming pool on the old Scarborough Senior High School site in accordance with the outcome of the community consultation process undertaken in 2001. I further refer to the subsequent commitment made by the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure in this House on 23 October last year: “The Government has made a commitment to deliver a basketball facility and also a swimming pool on the site.” (1) Is the Premier aware that his Minister for Planning and Infrastructure yesterday issued a media statement revealing that a swimming pool may not be built on the old Scarborough Senior High School site? (2) Will the Premier now override his minister and reaffirm the commitment to the community, or will it be just another broken promise? Dr G.I. GALLOP

(1)-(2) If the member for Carine wanted me to give a comprehensive answer to the question, she should have put it on notice. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER: Members! Dr G.I. GALLOP: Let me make a contrast here. The member for Greenough is very keen to pursue an issue relating to the Fremantle and Karrakatta cemeteries. He has had the good grace to give me a copy of the question so that I can give him a detailed answer, which I presume I will be doing soon. I have given commitments in Scarborough. The Government has made clear the meaning of those commitments, and it sticks by them. If the member for Carine wants a proper and comprehensive answer to the question, she should give me the time to give her the answers. The member for Carine knows I am not the minister responsible for this issue; the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure is the minister responsible. The Opposition is trying to be tricky and to unsettle the Government by asking these left field sorts of questions on which we have not been briefed. I will take the question on notice and give the member a proper and comprehensive answer before the finish of today’s business. Mr C.J. Barnett interjected. The SPEAKER: Order! I call the Leader of the Opposition to order for the first time.
