I thank the member for Swan Hills for the question and for her general interest in policing matters. On 1 September this year we saw the assassination of former Criminal Investigation Bureau head Don Hancock and his friend Lou Lewis in a car in Lathlain. On the following Monday, the Government responded very quickly with an unprecedented $500 000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible. Since that time, the Police Service has been conducting Operation Zircon to bring those people who are responsible to justice as soon as possible. The tough action taken by police officers associated with Operation Zircon needs to be fully supported. These officers are doing a very good job under very difficult circumstances. So far, some 14 people have been charged with a total of 33 offences, which range from the sale and supply of prohibited drugs to the possession of firearms. The officers are also considering laying charges for possession and supply of explosives. At the weekend, police charged the leader of the Gypsy Jokers motorcycle gang, Lennard Mark Kirby, with possession of nearly five grams of cocaine. During a search of his property, police found more than three kilograms of amphetamines, and expect to lay further charges. Our Police Service is experiencing major success in combating outlaw motorcycle gangs in Western Australia. Any influx of outlaw motorcycle gang members into this State will be met with the full force of the law. This Government is 100 per cent behind the efforts of our Police Service to combat the scourge of outlaw motorcycle gangs. We will do everything possible to equip police with the resources necessary to safeguard the community against possible threats.
