SENIORS —
COST-OF-LIVING REBATE
724. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
minister representing the Minister for Seniors and Volunteering:
Recent announcements on the halving of the cost-of-living
rebate for seniors will impact around 306 000 Western Australian seniors.
(1) Does the
government acknowledge that many seniors are reliant on the cost-of-living
rebate to balance their budgets?
(2) Does the
government believe that the cost-of-living rebate is no longer a necessary
rebate for a large proportion of those 306 000 seniors?
(3) If no to
(2), what concessions or rebates over and above those already in place will be established
to compensate seniors who currently rely on the rebate for the losses they will
incur?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) WA Seniors Card holders have the
most generous seniors' concessions scheme in Australia.
(2) Seniors Card
holders who have applied for the rebate will receive it in 2014. The Liberal–National
government will conduct a review of all WA Seniors Card rebates and concessions
for 2015–16 onwards.
(3) Not applicable.
