Burswood Entertainment Precinct—Outdoor amphitheatre
896. Hon Julie Freeman to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer to the
minister's response to question without notice 840 regarding the proposed
Burswood entertainment precinct outdoor amphitheatre.
(1) Noting the reference to a gap in the market
between venues accommodating 1,000 patrons and the RAC Arena's capacity for 15,000
patrons, why has a venue within this capacity range not been proposed?
(2) How many performances or touring acts are currently
seeking or have in recent years sought access to a venue with the capacity of 20,000?
(3) Has consideration been given to developing a
venue with a flexible multiuse space that could be utilised by Western
Australian dance schools, universities, community organisations and the
business sector?
(4) If yes to (3), will these organisations be
consulted?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Sport and Recreation.
(1)–(4) The
proposed amphitheatre capacity includes opportunities for flexibility and
scalability to provide for smaller crowds to serve both local and
international acts effectively. More than 80 organisations have been engaged
and consultation is ongoing.
