I thank the member for some notice of this question. I am sure all members of this House are very supportive of our athletes who are competing in the Olympics. The next two weeks will be two of the most exciting weeks of our nation’s history. Elite athletes from around the world will be in Sydney competing for gold. It is a time when our nation will be showcased internationally and I have no doubt it will be seen in a very favourable light. Western Australia has some 50 athletes and 27 officials in the Olympics and 32 athletes and 11 officials in the Paralympics. The Government, together with the WA Olympic Council and the City of Perth, will organise a reception and welcome-home parade for the Olympians on Monday, 6 October, and for the Paralympians several weeks later, which date has yet to be finalised. It is appropriate to honour our elite athletes from the Olympics and the Paralympics in such a way and we wish them every success in the fortnight ahead.
