TAXI USERS' SUBSIDY SCHEME
967. Hon SUE ELLERY to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
This question without notice of
which some notice has been given was originally to the Minister for Disability
Services. I am told that it was redirected to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport. The first part of the question is: is the minister
aware of complaints? I was advised that the Minister for Disability Services
was aware; I do not know whether the Minister for Transport was aware.
(1) Is the
minister aware of complaints about the use of the taxi users' subsidy
scheme from those people in wheelchairs who can access an ordinary taxi cab but
who are being denied the 75 per cent discount, up to the value of $25, and
instead being afforded only the 50 per cent discount?
(2) Is the
minister aware that this forces more people in wheelchairs, who do not
specifically need them, to request multipurpose taxis, adding to the demand and
delays for multipurpose taxis?
