FORRESTFIELD–AIRPORT
LINK — COMMUNITY CONSULTATION
909. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
Attorney General representing the Minister for Small Business:
I refer to comments made by Glenys Godfrey, MLA in the Southern Gazette of 2 September 2014
relating to the concerns of small businesses on Great Eastern Highway around
the impacts of the airport rail link project on their businesses; namely, that,
according to my notes, ''people have to stop complaining about
everything and recognise when good things are coming our way''.
(1) Does the government share this view?
(2) Will the
government liaise with concerned businesses along Great Eastern Highway to work
through any negative repercussions that may flow from the construction and location
of the future Forrestfield–Airport Link project?

On behalf of the Minister for Small Business, I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT : Order, members! Order!
Hon MICHAEL MISCHIN : I can always come back later, Mr
President!
The PRESIDENT : No, I do not want you to come back later.
Obviously, quite a lot of members want to jump into your seat to answer this
question, but you are already there!
Hon MICHAEL MISCHIN : People seem to be having so much fun, I
feel like I am cramping their style!
(1) The
Forrestfield–Airport Link project represents a major transformational
project that is designed to meet our growing needs and improve transport
connectivity to and from Perth Airport, the eastern suburbs and regional
centres. Major works of this scale inevitably bring changes and some disruption
to businesses and residents.
(2) Extensive
and consistent community engagement is essential to a major infrastructure project
such as this. I am advised that during September, the Public Transport
Authority has been holding community information sessions in local areas along
the proposed route. To date, four sessions have been held, with a further two
sessions scheduled for Monday, 15 September, and Thursday, 18 September.
Details of these sessions are available at
www.forrestfieldairportlink.wa.gov.au. For regular updates or to provide
feedback on the project, businesses can also email
