LOCAL GOVERNMENT - VOTING SYSTEM

I thank the member for the question. (1)-(2) On 4 October 2005 my predecessor, Hon John Bowler, in his role as the then Minister for Local Government and Regional Development, requested that the Local Government Advisory Board provide him with a report on structural and electoral reform, and that set about the process. I have the report in front of me. There were 11 public hearings on the matter, and the board received some 233 submissions from local government, private citizens and members of Parliament. At the end of that process in April this year, I released the report for public comment. I have received numerous submissions, but I am not sure of the exact number. I am quite happy to compile a list of the statistics and submissions and table that information at the next sitting.
