GERALDTON HEALTH CAMPUS — EMERGENCY
DEPARTMENT
332. Ms M. BEARD to the Minister for Health:
I have a supplementary
question. Given that the minister has given the additional funding, will she
also now commit to providing the additional funding that will need to be
provided for the projects in Tom Price, Meekatharra and Laverton, which will
come up short if they are to be completed?
The SPEAKER : I will allow the answer on this occasion,
but a supplementary question is supposed to be directly related to the first
question. Your first question was about Geraldton and now, in the
supplementary, you are trying to ask about a whole range of other hospitals. We
also canvassed this issue yesterday. I ask the minister to give a brief
response.

Speaker, as you have rightly pointed out, the member has
attempted to have two questions in one, and I am not going to entertain it. I am
going to outline our significant contribution to regional health care in Western
Australia and this government's achievements in health. We have
committed to delivering more regional healthcare infrastructure. We have delivered the Newman Health Service, a $61.4 million
investment, with more beds, a brand new emergency department, a dedicated
medical centre and consult spaces. Radiation oncology services have been
delivered in Albany. Upgraded birthing suites have been delivered at Broome
Health Campus. There have been upgrades to Dongara Health Centre and Collie
Hospital. We have delivered upgrades to emergency departments at Plantagenet
Cranbrook, Boddington, Dalwallinu and Wongan Hills health services. We have
added 30 beds to Bunbury Regional Hospital. We are delivering a major
redevelopment worth half a billion dollars at Bunbury Regional Hospital, which
will be significant for the south west. It includes expanded maternity, more
emergency departments, increased theatre
capacity, new mental health facilities and much more. We continue to support
nursing graduates to work in country health. We are delivering the rural
psychiatry pathway. We have delivered more paid paramedics into the region. We
have expanded the midwifery group practice. I could go on and on, Speaker, but
I note your comment about making it brief.
