It is estimated that on average, recently built homes in the Perth region use about 120kL of scheme water per year for outdoor watering. Based on this figure, 150,000 garden bores in the Perth region would therefore be saving 18GL of scheme water. This would be a minimum saving because many households with garden bores are on larger blocks than more recently built homes and would therefore use more than 120kL per year of scheme water if not using a bore.
