I refer to the Rottnest Island Management Plan 2009-2014 where it is stated that the Rottnest Island Authority’s intention is to move to a different management structure, when the Rottnest Island Taskforce’s recommendation was that the current governance structure be retained, and I ask -
(1) Why is the Minister proposing to move away from the Rottnest Island Taskforce’s recommendation?
(2) Will the Minister undertake to canvas this proposal widely via a public consultation process, whether or not it is associated with the proposed review of the Act?

(1) There is no reference in the Rottnest Island Management Plan 2009-14 (RIMP) to change the governance structure of Rottnest Island. The parameters for review of the
Rottnest Island Authority Act 1987
(the Act) as set out in Section 49(1) include a review of effectiveness of operations of the Authority.
(2) The planned review of the Act will include opportunities for public comment.
