I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. I am advised - (1) Yes. (2) As the member notes, discussions are provisional. These discussions do not pre-empt Government’s decision and do not guarantee any outcome of the deliberation. These discussions have been necessary throughout the Government’s examination of this issue to ensure that the Government is as fully informed as possible about future ramifications of any decision regarding in principle access to Barrow Island. This decision will determine whether legislative action is required and whether assessment of a specific gas processing proposal will proceed under part IV of the Environmental Protection Act and other statutory approvals processes. (3) Yes. (4) On or around 20 June 2003. As indicated in the response to (2), such ramifications are relevant to an informed deliberation.
