(1) How many apprentices are currently employed?
(2) How many trainees are currently employed?
(3) Are there currently any plans to increase the number of apprenticeships and traineeships immediately?
(4) If yes to (3), what are the proposed increases?
(5) What funds have been allocated in 2009-10 to recruit more participants for apprenticeships and traineeships?
(6) If no funds have been allocated, why not?

Public Transport Authority
(1) Five.
(2) Four.
(3) There are no plans to increase these numbers this financial year.
(4) Not Applicable.
(5) None.
(6) Recruitment of replacement apprentices and trainees is incorporated as part of general recruitment processes at divisional and corporate level and therefore is not identified as a separate specifically funded item.
Main Roads
(1) No apprentices are employed at Main Roads as almost all work is contracted out.
(2) There are a total of 22 trainees currently employed at Main Roads.
(3) There are no immediate plans to increase traineeships within the current financial year, however, this is reviewed annually through workforce planning requirements.
(4) Not applicable.
(5) Refer to response to question 3.
(6) No further funds have been allocated to recruit participants for apprenticeships and traineeships as the workforce planning requirements for 2009-10 have already been met.
Department of Transport
(1) None.
(2) Three school based trainees and two full time trainees.
(3) With the formation of the Department of Transport, a detailed workforce plan initiative is about to commence. This will determine the number of traineeships.
(4) Not applicable.
(5) None.
(6) Future budget consideration needs to be determined in line with a detailed workforce plan.
