GRAVITY DISCOVERY CENTRE — FUNDING
I refer to the Gravity Discovery Centre’s funding contained within the 2011–12 budget. (1) For what reason does the Gravity Discovery Centre’s funding reduce by $50 000 a year, from $350 000 in 2011–12 to $200 000 in 2014–15? (2) If the Gravity Discovery Centre is unable to find additional funding to make up these reductions, how will the shortfall be funded? (3) Will the minister give a guarantee that no educational programs or staff numbers will be cut due to this reduction in funding? Hon HELEN MORTON

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) The Gravity Discovery Centre will receive $1.1 million over four years to enable the centre to continue operating. The reduction in funding each year is intended to reflect the uptake of other funding options. (2) The Gravity Discovery Centre is currently developing future funding options to address recommendations from the independent report completed in 2010. (3) A decision on future educational programs or staff numbers will be made by the Gravity Discovery Centre Foundation board as an outcome of developing future funding options.
