WIDENING
140. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Transport:
(1) Can the
minister confirm that in 2013 the federal government committed funding for
widening and improvements to the Great Eastern Highway from Walgoolan to
Coolgardie?
(2) If yes to (1), how much and in which years was the
funding to be provided?
(3) Can the minister confirm this funding came from savings
on other federally funded road projects?
(4) Is the federal government still committed to funding this
project?
(5) If yes to (4), how much and in which years will funding
be provided?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) Both the
state and federal governments have committed funding for widening and
improvements to the Great Eastern Highway from Walgoolan to Coolgardie.
(2) The federal government committed
$42.2 million in 2013–14.
(3)–(4) Yes.
The state government negotiated with the federal government to ensure savings
from other federally funded roads would be redirected to this important
regional road project. The state government will continue to negotiate with the
federal government to secure the best outcome for the people of Western
Australia.
(5) Funding will be $6.2 million in 2013–l4 and $36 million
in 2014–15.
