PERTH CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL — PARKING
190. Mr R.H. COOK to the Minister for
Health:
I have a supplementary question. The
minister mentioned that the government has to somehow pay for the multistorey
car park that the private operator built. Why did the government have to give
away the 300 bays that the WA taxpayers built?

AnswerView source ↗

There was a competitive tendering
process gone through several years ago, and we can cover this more in the
matter of public interest debate later on. There was a competitive process
involving the private sector. Various proposals were put forward and the best
proposal from the taxpayer's point of view was determined and part of
the contract involves the management of the approximately 300 car parking bays
under the new children's hospital. If they had not have been included,
then no doubt the cost to the taxpayers for the multideck facility would have
been greater.
