I am advised by the Department of Education as follows:
Over the last three and a half years over $800 000 of State funding has been spent on maintenance and improvements at Thornlie Primary School including over $433 000 installing new transportable classrooms, over $233 000 on faults, over $60 000 on general restoration, almost $27 500 on routine maintenance and almost $48 000 on minor improvements.
Major works include repairs to the quadrangle, playing surface and paving, resurfacing of pre-primary and dental therapy car parks, new reticulation bore and associated electrics, and repairs to security lighting.
Maintenance spending for 2009, 2010 and 2011 is as follows:
2009 - $298 062
2010 - $197 542
2011 - $242 739
(a) The toilet upgrade to improve staff and student toilet facilities, was completed on 3 February 2012.
(b) The Department of Education provided fencing in 2007-2008 between buildings at ThornliePrimary Schoolto secure the internal courtyard. The fencing was extended to include the new library and covered assembly facilities provided through the
Building the Education Revolution
program.
The "perimeter security fencing program" is available and funded from the Department of Education's building maintenance program and specifically targets schools with the highest levels of wilful damage.
To date ThornliePrimary Schoolhas not submitted an application for perimeter security fencing. The school may submit an application by contacting the Strategic Maintenance Consultant in Strategic Asset Planning Branch of the Department of Education.
(c) Schools are resourced through their School Grant for the provision of Minor Works funds. These funds can be used by the school for minor improvements such as the installation of security screens.
(d) There are no known capital and maintenance issues with regard to the reticulation of the school oval.
(e) Schools are able to apply for administration upgrades through their Regional Education Offices for consideration for funding from the Department's Capital Works Sub Programs.
No request has been made by the school.
(f) An officer from the Department visited the school to investigate this matter and has arranged for an ACROD parking bay and ramp to be installed to access the administration block. It is anticipated the works will be completed by April 2012.
(g)-(h) The Department has discussed this issue with the principal who has indicated that there is adequate parking within and on road verges surrounding the school and that it is being managed at the local level.
