❓ Mr. Love questions the Premier about a promised support package for businesses affected by electricity outages, criticising the existing $240 payment as insufficient. The Premier defends the payment as assistance for restocking fridges and accuses the opposition of favouring big business.

ELECTRICITY — OUTAGES — SUPPORT PACKAGE
98. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question.
Many businesses have reported that they have been unable to claim insurance for
their significant losses. The $240 payment is a pittance compared with the
amount of money they have lost. When will the government come forward with a support
package for those businesses, as was promised?

As I said, it is not a compensation
package. The extended power outage payment is an assistance payment that is
meant particularly for people who need to restock the fridges in their homes.
It was traditionally a $120 payment—that is what it was when you were
in government—but we doubled it to $240. I am very pleased that we were
able to make that payment. We will continue to ensure that we support small
businesses, as we always do. We are the party
that supports small businesses. You
are the party of big business, and we are the party of small business. I urge the insurance companies to do everything they can to support these small
businesses and to continue to work with an extraordinary member of Parliament,
the member for Kalgoorlie, who does an extraordinary job supporting the people in her community. We will continue to make
sure that we do what is right for the people of Western Australi a, and
in particular for the people of Kalgoorlie.
