CRIMINAL INJURIES COMPENSATION
876. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I
refer to the substantial and unacceptable backlog of victim compensation claims
within the Office of Criminal Injuries Compensation,
and the significant impact these process delays are having on innocent victims'
lives and livelihoods.
(1) For the financial years 2022–23
and 2023–24 —
(a) what was the
average processing time from a victim's lodgement of a claim to payment
of compensation to a victim's bank account;
(b) how many victim claims were
lodged with the Office of Criminal Injuries Compensation; and
(c) how many
victim claims were determined favourably and compensated, how many were
rejected, and how many are still awaiting determination?
(2) As at 12
August 2024, what are the specific staffing levels of the tribunal that is the
Office of Criminal Injuries Compensation?
