Given that the Minister stated in the House on 11 October 2017 that 'my role, very clearly, is to make sure that the Local Government Act is not breached' in response to Question without Notice No. 487 regarding an email sent from the Mayor of the Town of Port Hedland to the State Labor Party, I ask: (a) is the Minister aware that the email raises a number of allegations of interference in local government processes; (b) was the Minister or any of his Ministerial Staff aware of the email before the question was asked in Parliament; (c) if yes to (b) when did the Minister or his staff become aware; (d) if yes to (b) what actions did the Minister or his staff take in response to becoming aware of the email; and (e) if no to (b) what action will the Minister take now?

Neither I nor my staff were aware of the email in question prior to the Member’s question on 11 October 2017.
The email contains a number of allegations and claims, but no details to support those allegations and claims.
There are clear and established processes for which such complaints can be properly lodged and dealt with by appropriate authorities.
Neither I nor the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has received any complaints of this nature from the Mayor of the Town of Port Hedland.
