I ask a supplementary question. Will the minister concede that her safety-first policy for children is less about fact and more about spin? Ms S.M. McHALE

Our Government has been recognised by those organisations whose opinions I care about as having done more for child protection than previous Governments. We will discuss that later during private members’ business. The budget has funded 50 new staff on top of the 50 staff that resulted from the Gordon Inquiry into Response by Government Agencies to Complaints of Family Violence and Child Abuse in Aboriginal Communities. With further savings, we have been able to fund an additional 15 new staff, taking the total to 115. The Department for Community Development has never had such a staff increase in its history. I will be very happy to expose the Opposition’s failure in this area later this afternoon.
