The Minister for Science and Innovation has provided the following response: (1a-f) Surveying all agencies across Government to respond to these questions would involve unnecessary costs and staff time. However, two investigations have been carried out (in 1989 and 2002) of monitoring expenditure, the last survey indicating that 23 departments spent an average of $14,000 each per year on external media monitoring.
