(1) What is the justification for abolishing the supplies/stores person currently employed at the Busselton District Hospital?
(2) What assessment has been made of the additional time required by nursing and other staff to take over the stores ordering and distribution work, once this person ceases employment at the hospital?
(3) Is the Minister aware that the decision, based upon consultant’s advice, to restrict the number of annual leave to 5 FTEs at any one time is causing a backlog of annual leave entitlements and significant difficulties for nurses at school holiday times when they wish to take leave to be with their children?
(4) Why are there no support service staff for after hours duties, when many patients are discharged after hours and facilities such as the birthing suite need to be cleaned after hours if a birth occurs after 3.00pm and the suite is needed for another birth?
(5) What is the justification for reducing the number of clerical staff at the hospital from 6 to 5, when the administrative requirements of running a hospital are increasing,?

PCA’s (Support Service Staff) are not permitted to clean up blood and body fluid spillage. The cleaning of patient areas such as a birthing room involving blood and body fluid spillage is a nursing duty and can occur at any time. (5) Many of the administrative functions at Busselton District Hospital are now performed on a shared services model at an Area level. As a result, the administrative requirements at the Busselton Hospital have been reduced.
