LOCAL
GOVERNMENT — FUNDING CUTS
150. Mr D.A. TEMPLEMAN to the Minister for Local Government:
I refer to $5.5 million worth of cuts to payments to local
government funding announced by the Treasurer this week, and in particular cuts
to funding for local government fire and emergency services purposes and the community
sporting and recreation facilities fund.
(1) Which councils will be affected by these funding cuts
affecting local government this year?
(2) What
equipment or services or CSRFF projects will no longer be able to be provided
due to these cuts this year?
(3) Why did
the minister agree to these cuts?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the question.
(1)–(3) There
are actually no cuts to funding. We are going through a process of just holding
back some payments.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members!
Mr A.J. SIMPSON : More importantly,
there are no cuts. The money will always be there; it is just a process we are
going through. On 1 July, all the funds will be available. In answer to
questions regarding which local governments and which services, unfortunately,
I do not know.
