STATE AGREEMENTS
330. Mr D.T. REDMAN to the Premier:
I refer to comments the Premier has
made in the media and in this place over many years that changing state
agreements without consent from all parties represents a significant sovereign
risk and threat to investment in Western Australia.
Mr D.J. Kelly interjected.
The SPEAKER : Minister for
Water, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr D.T. REDMAN :
(1) Has the Premier's
position now changed?
(2) Can the Premier
today clarify which state agreements are allowed to be changed unilaterally and
which ones are sacred?

(1)–(2) I
was asked about Mr Clive Palmer earlier today outside the building. I said
advisedly that I think he is the most greedy person in this entire country and
that his behaviour in relation to investment in Western Australia severely
damages our state. The fact that he does not employ anyone in this state and
that he is threatening an investor that employs more than 3 000 Western Australians
is completely and utterly disgraceful. The fact that he would move his company
to Singapore to avoid his obligations in this country is again completely and
utterly disgraceful. For him to go out there and claim some sort of false flag
of patriotism and that he is somehow more Australian than others, and for him
to denigrate people who have actually served this country in uniform, when he
has not is, again, further evidence of the disgraceful character of this man. I
would say to the Liberals and Nationals WA—in particular in this case
to the Nationals—do not support Clive Palmer. Do not come in here like
Brendon Grylls did and use your office to support Clive Palmer.
Ms M.J. Davies interjected.
The SPEAKER : Leader of the
Nationals WA!
Mr M. McGOWAN : If we go back
to 2009–10, Brendon Grylls was Clive Palmer's flunkey. That is
the fact of the matter.
Ms M.J. Davies interjected.
The SPEAKER : Leader of the
National Party, I call you to order for the first time.
Mr M. McGOWAN : He was Clive Palmer's
flunkey in this place. I would urge the National Party to grow up and realise
that this person is a threat to this country and this state. The government
will make its decisions in the future and we will advise members of those
decisions at that point in time.
