The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) advises:
(a)
Given proximity to the townsite, DMP would refer any mining proposal to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) under Section 38(5) of the
Environmental Protection Act 1986
.
(b)
Any proposal to mine within the townsite would be referred to the Minister for Lands and the Shire for comment as well as the EPA. Proposals would be examined on a case by case basis and take all relevant matters into account including stakeholder consultation and mining tenement conditions.
(c)
Refer to (b)
(d)
No mining is currently proposed within the townsite. In the short term, land within the prospective south eastern corner of the townsite including the light industrial area is available for lease. Should mining be proposed in the future, the mining proponent would be responsible for any relocation and/or compensation
