APPLECROSS SENIOR HIGH
SCHOOL — ENROLMENT
PROJECTIONS
1506. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Education:
I refer to forecasts that Applecross
Senior High School will reach a population of 2 000 students next year, well
beyond its design capacity of 1 600 students, which was surpassed four years
ago.
(1) Has the
school approached the state government for additional funding support to assist
in improving existing infrastructure; and, if so, what has been the response?
(2) Noting the overall population growth in the
catchment zone, what is the Department of Education doing at the moment to plan for increasing the capacity of
neighbouring senior high schools to absorb surging demand?
(3) Is the
Department of Education planning to develop a new high school in the inner-southern
suburbs; and, if not, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes. Senior
officers from the Department of Education have met with the school regarding
enrolment projections to inform planning.
(2) The
department will ensure that the school has the accommodation to meet student
enrolment from within the school's local intake area.
(3) The
department continues to monitor student enrolments across the inner southern
suburbs to inform planning for accommodation at existing schools and for
long-term planning purposes.
