Notice was given of this question, Mr President. I refer to the minister’s continued attempts to play down the prospect of cost overruns and delays in the central city rail project. (1) Will the minister please confirm that the contractors have encountered more than 100 000 cubic metres of soil contamination during drilling and excavation in The Esplanade and Perth yard sites? (2) If so, please provide details of the categories of contamination of the soil and the approximate volume of each category encountered? (3) Will the minister provide an assurance that there is no public safety risk in the contamination of the soil or its removal? (4) What is the anticipated cost and who will pay for its removal? (5) If the contractor will pay, will the minister please table the relevant clause of the contract? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD
