(2) Factors considered included:
(a) Enrolment and accommodation issues.
(b) Declining enrolments at Ferndale, Lynwoodand KinlockPrimary Schools.
(c) Close proximity of the three schools.
(d) Lack of significant land developments or new housing projected for this area.
(e) The opportunity to further improve access for all students to appropriate educational programs across this cluster of schools.
(f) Opportunityto maximise the use of available resources across the cluster of schools.
(3) (a) Prior to the decision being made to amalgamate the three schools, parents from the school communities of Brookman, Lynwood, Kinlock, Parkwood and Ferndale Primary Schools and Lynwood Senior High School, along with the Member for Riverton were represented on the Local Area Education Planning Drafting Committee that developed the options for the future of primary education in the local area.
(b) Subsequent to the decision being made community consultation has continued through a number of meetings of the Implementation Committee. This Committee is responsible for activities associated with the closure of the school; for example, closure functions, memorabilia and the eventual relocation to the new site. In addition, the Committee considers the new school name, logo and motto. The group continues to work through issues of transition, the development of the vision and ethos and teaching and learning programs for the new school.
(4) The retention or otherwise of bushland will be a matter for consideration by the future owner/developer in consultation with the City of Canning. Retention of bushland, public open space and other environmental community concerns are conditions that must be cleared to the satisfaction of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure at the time of rezoning.
(5) Yes.
(6) The Chief Executive Officer from the City of Canninghas recently written to the Department of Education and Training regarding the retention of bushland on behalf of residents. The Department responded along the lines of that provided for question 4 (above).
