BHP BILLITON AND RIO TINTO — STATE AGREEMENTS

representing the Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I
refer to BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto's state agreements—SAs—
as follows: the Iron Ore (Channar Joint Venture) Agreement Act 1987; the Iron
Ore (Dampier Mining Company Limited) Agreement Act 1969; the Iron Ore (FMG Chichester
Pty Ltd) Agreement Act 2006; the Iron Ore (Goldsworthy–Nimingarra)
Agreement Act 1972; the Iron Ore (Hamersley Range) Agreement Act 1963; the Iron
Ore (Hope Downs) Agreement Act 1992; the Iron Ore (Marillana Creek)
Agreement Act 1991; the Iron Ore (Mount Bruce) Agreement Act 1972; the Iron Ore
(Mount Goldsworthy) Agreement Act 1964; the Iron Ore (Mount Newman) Agreement
Act 1964; the Iron Ore (Robe River) Agreement Act 1964; the Iron Ore (The
Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited) Agreement Act 1964; the Iron Ore
(Wittenoom) Agreement Act 1972; the Iron Ore (Yandicoogina) Agreement Act 1996;
and the Iron Ore Processing (BHP Minerals) Agreement Act 1994.
(1) How many and
which of these agreements have reached the required 15 years for the rent
calculated at the rate of 25c a tonne for all forms of iron ore obtained from
those mining leases?
(2) Are the
tenements that have been added to these SAs at subsequent dates considered to
commence their production at the time of addition or are they added to the
original start date of the SA?
(3) How many and
which leases that produce iron ore and are owned by either BHP Billiton or Rio
Tinto are not covered by SAs?
(4) In each case
above, what is the tonnage associated with each answer?
