FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL —
HOT WATER JUNCTIONS
1082. Hon SUE ELLERY to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the hot water bellows
that caused major flooding at Fiona Stanley Hospital earlier this year.
(1) When will the government
conclude its investigation and report on the matter?
(2) Has the
government concluded whether the fault was a result of installation problems or
the operation of the hot water system?
(3) If so, what is that conclusion?
(4) Is the hot
water system's temperature and pressure being moderated to avoid
further potential blowouts; and, if yes, what is the impact of the subnormal
levels on hospital operations?
(5) If no to (4), is the government
confident that none of the existing bellows will blow out?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The
investigators are currently in conversation with the bellows manufacturer,
which is based in the United States. It is not possible to estimate the amount
of time the investigation will take at this stage; however, we are endeavouring
to have the investigation completed as quickly as possible.
(2) The fault will be determined via the investigation.
(3) Not applicable.
(4) Yes. Fiona
Stanley Hospital has reduced the pressure and the temperature of the system to
reduce the risk of any potential rupture of the bellows in question prior to
the bellows replacement project being completed. There is no impact on hospital
operations from the pressure or temperature reductions. FSH continues to
operate within normal operating parameters.
(5) Not applicable.
