Hall Park Reserve
535. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Lands:
I refer the minister
to ongoing proposals to excise land from the Hall Park Reserve in Mandurah to allow
for the establishment of a private brewery.
(1) Is the minister aware of the concerns
that have been raised by local Aboriginal elders who consider the land in
question to be sacred and have called for Indigenous respect to be put ahead of
grog?
(2) Has the minister met with elders to
discuss their concerns?
(3) If no to (2), does he have any plans
to do so and, if not, why not?
(4) Has the minister entered into any
correspondence with his colleague the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs in this
matter and, if he has, will he provide as much detail as he reasonably can to
the house?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following on
behalf of the Minister for Planning and Lands.
(1)–(4) The Minister for Planning and Lands has
responsibility for the excision process under the Land
Administration Act 1997 . No decision on the excision process will occur
until the findings of the survey are presented to the Minister for Aboriginal
Affairs for consideration.
