I thank the member for some notice of this question. The answer is quite brief, but somewhat complicated; and if, in Hon Frank Hough’s opinion, it misses the point, he may choose to ask another question tomorrow to clarify the matter. However, I will provide the answer that I have here. (1) The Department of Agriculture contributes no funds directly to the grower research trials in this project. These funds come from the land, water and wool sustainable grazing on saline lands subprogram. The Department of Agriculture does, and will, provide technical, planning and networking support to the farmer groups, costed at $1.7 million over the five years of the project. (2) Of the $1.1 million contribution from the land, water and wool sustainable grazing on saline lands subprogram, approximately $600 000 has been committed to farmer research projects. (3) Currently 40 projects have been accepted for funding. (4) We are able to identify the projects and a funding breakdown; however, I am unable to provide them at such short notice. The average funding for each farmer research project is $15 000. It may help if I say that the part of the answer that confused me was the reference in part (1) to a subprogram. The answer is not all that helpful in that it does not say a subprogram of what. We may be able to clear that up later.
