Dion Barber—Legal case
622. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Premier:
I have a
supplementary question. As the member for Bassendean stated, has the government
learnt some lessons that will not be repeated for the sake of future child
abuse victims?

AnswerView source ↗

I
think it is important to note that, to date, the state has settled hundreds—I
think over 300—of child sexual abuse civil claims against the
department and paid over $110 million as part of that settlement process. It is
important to remember that the changes we made to the laws have provided an
opportunity for people to seek justice when they could not before.
