LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, CRITICISM BY PREMIER
(1) Is the Leader of the House aware of the Premier’s criticism of this House in the Legislative Assembly today? (2) Bearing in mind that the Government, with the regular support of the Greens (WA), has the numbers in this House to run it as it wishes, does he take offence at the Premier’s unfair criticism of his performance? (3) If so, will he publicly repudiate the Premier’s outrageous criticism of this House? Hon KIM CHANCE

It is not often that one receives a dorothy dixer from the Leader of the Opposition! (1)-(3) I did not get the opportunity of observing the Premier’s answer in question time, although just a moment ago I had the opportunity to read a rough transcript of it. In fact, the Premier had called me not long before question time in the Legislative Assembly, at about 1.45 pm. I was aware of what the Premier was going to say. Indeed, what the Premier said is not all that different from what I said myself late last night. It is true that this House has passed only four or five government Bills in the whole of this calendar year. If the Opposition expects the Premier to sit down and take that, saying that the Government is quite prepared to have the Legislative Council obstruct its legislation, it has another think coming.
