(1) In view of the extensive waiting lists for children requiring early intervention for developmental problems in all health regions in this state, can the minister detail how many extra health professionals, such as psychiatrists, clinical nurses, social workers, paediatricians, speech pathologists, clinical psychologists or occupational therapists, have been recruited? (2) Can the minister outline the format of these planned assessment diagnosis and treatment sessions and advise whether they will be one-on-one counselling or general education forums? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1) The Department of Health will be recruiting for this service in the United Kingdom in September and October 2007. Local and national recruitment will also be occurring. (2) The multidisciplinary specialist services will provide assessment, diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment for severe cases. On-site training for registrars and specialist consultancy will be offered to metropolitan and country health sectors via teleconferencing, and research on assessment and treatment will be conducted.
