I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
(1)–(2) Aligning with national standards
for offence classification and reporting, and considering Western Australia legislation
and operational reporting requirements, stalking offences in Western Australia
are currently categorised under the broader classification of harassment, which
itself falls within the overarching category of miscellaneous offences, as
defined by the Western Australia Police Force's crime recording framework. Due
to this grouping, stalking offences are not reported as a standalone category in
the publicly available WA police crime statistics. Internal systems capture and
monitor these offences and they are available for operational and strategic
analysis within the agency.
