MINING — LEASE APPROVALS
218. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I
have a supplementary question. I thank the minister. Given the Premier's
announcement and the matters that the minister outlined in his answer,
when can our resources industry expect a government and department that is
pro-development as opposed to pro-regulation?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please!

As I said, we are continuing to
progress the announcements the Premier made in December. I know the Minister
for Environment recently made some public announcements regarding the
Environmental Protection Authority.
Ms M.J. Davies interjected.
Mr D.R. MICHAEL :
Announcements of change, member.
Ms M.J. Davies interjected.
Mr D.R. MICHAEL : Member, we
are announcing that things are happening. Things have changed. As I said,
within my department, Resources Online is scheduled to come online later this
year, which was an election commitment. Work is ongoing for a major digital
transformation, which will make life a lot easier for mining companies to get
their approvals in. One of the key changes, I am told, is that with the current
system when an application comes in and a change needs to be made, there is no
way to do that. With Resources Online, changes to information or new
information will be able to come in a lot quicker to allow for a much quicker
assessment.
