In relation to the Waterfront Project, I ask:
(a) how many trees from the heritage listed Esplanade Reserve are to be retained;
(b) what advice or modifications have been made to plans for the inlet and island as a result of the need to dredge deeper to address water circulation problems;
(c) has the Minister's office, the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority or any contractors instructed workers on the site that they are unable to speak to non-workers about what work they are doing there; and
(d) when did the Minister receive the most recent advice on the financial status and budget for the project; and
(e) will the Minister table that advice, and if not, why not?

(a) There are 319 trees identified within the project area of which:
· 29 will be removed and replanted back into the project area and 70 will be offered to local governments, schools and community organisations for transplantation outside of the project area.
· 137 are not suitable for relocation as they are species that are not suitable for transplantation at their current age and size are in poor health or require significant preparation time. These trees will be disposed of.
· 38 will be retained in-situ.
· A further 45 trees will be removed from the road reserve by Main Roads WA and may be offered to the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority for transplantation.
(b) There has been no requirement to modify the inlet depth for water quality issues since the preliminary design was completed in 2010. It has consistently been at -2.5m AHD [Australian Height Datum].
(c) A standard inclusion in every public works contract awarded by the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority includes guidance on project communications to ensure consistent and accurate information is provided, through the proper channels.
(d) The most recent advice on the financial status and budget for the project was included as part of the 2012-13 Western Australian Budget process.
(e) No, the 2012-2013 Western Australian Budget papers are publicly available.
