(1) Will the minister ensure that the Department of Health funds the requirement for 24-hour rostered coverage at Jurien Bay, enabling all health services in the Leeman-Jurien Bay-Cervantes area to be integrated on a recurrent basis? (2) Will the minister accompany me to the Lancelin-Cervantes-Jurien Bay-Leeman area as soon as possible to gain a first-hand appreciation of the requirements for health services in the region over the next five years? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Jurien Bay Health Centre is a publicly funded health service operated by Western Health Service. The health centre provides 24-hour nursing cover seven days a week, with nurses on call for the 12 hours from 8.00 pm to 8.00 am. After-hours calls to the health centre are referred to HealthDirect and, if required, HealthDirect contacts the nurse practitioner on call in Jurien. After-hours emergency medical coverage is available through the Rivers medical group when required. (2) It is the minister’s intention to visit the area and he will notify the member when he does so.
