CORRUPTION AND CRIME
COMMISSION — NORTH METROPOLITAN HEALTH SERVICE — MISCONDUCT
790. Mr S.K. L'ESTRANGE to the Minister for Health:
Given the seriousness of the
Corruption and Crime Commission findings of fraud and corruption in the North Metropolitan
Health Service, why did he not appoint an independent person to evaluate and
identify any issues relating to the governance and integrity functions of that
service?

As the member would be aware, the
Corruption and Crime Commission conducted a thorough investigation of these
issues and came out with a report. Following that report, I then asked the
Department of Health to do a thorough investigation of its own systems and to
report back on those. In addition to that, we asked the Public Sector
Commissioner to undertake an independent evaluation of the systems and
accountabilities inside the health system. The question perhaps is to the
member for Churchlands: does he not think the Public Sector Commissioner is
independent?
