PERTH CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL — SEXUAL
SAFETY POLICY
861. Ms L. METTAM to the Minister for Health:
I have a supplementary question.
Have all recommended safety upgrades now been completed at ward 5A?

AnswerView source ↗

There were, I think, 11
recommendations from the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist; 10 are complete and
the eleventh is the infrastructure reconfiguration of the ward. The Child and
Adolescent Health Service is working with other health service providers on how
we decant the current cohort whilst those infrastructure upgrades continue
because, essentially, it is the only 20-bed unit in the state. It is the only
20-bed unit, and we cannot close it. We cannot close those beds; no-one else
takes children under 16. It is unique, so we have to safely decant those
patients into an appropriate setting, and this is very challenging because
there is only one paediatric tertiary hospital in the state. We cannot move
them to another paediatric tertiary hospital.
The member has lost interest because
she is looking at her phone. She has lost interest in the question, and she is
moving on to the next. Absolutely, the government has the funding —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please.
Ms A. SANDERSON : The request
for funding was made by the health service, and the government accepted the
request and provided the funding. Now, they are doing the important work of planning
for that infrastructure so that it can be completed safely, without closing
beds.
The SPEAKER : Members, that
concludes question time.
