HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS — MEDICARE
REPAYMENTS
359. Mr R.H. COOK to the Minister for
Health:
I have a supplementary question. In
May 2014, the Premier indicated that he understood what a change in price
mechanism would do to the pressure on emergency departments. The Australian
Medical Association nationally has already flagged that it will put increased
pressure on EDs. Why does the minister not take a stand,
as have other state ministers, and stand up to the Turnbull government and
campaign against its freeze on Medicare GP payments?

AnswerView source ↗

We make our representations to the
commonwealth government regularly through the Premier at the heads of government
level and through relevant ministers. There is a federal election campaign on
at the moment; that is why the member has asked the question, obviously.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Members!
Mr
J.H.D. DAY : He has been asked to fight the fight for his federal
colleagues. They are probably getting a little concerned that they are not
doing as well as they would like, so he is taking up the argument for them, and
I do not think it will do them much good.
