RESERVE BANK OF AUSTRALIA — INTEREST RATES
574. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Treasurer:
I
have a supplementary question. Every infrastructure project that the Treasurer
controls has had huge cost blowouts . Will she accept responsibility for
fuelling inflation in Western Australia?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Firstly, the interjection from the member
for Swan Hills was disorderly. Secondly, in the supplementary question, the
Leader of the Opposition gave a statement and then asked the question. The
supplementary question has to just be that question that he asked at the end.

Leader
of the Opposition, I was not on the grassy knoll either! There is this
conspiracy theory from the opposition. The reality is that the cost of
producing everything in WA, and the nation, has increased as a result of the
COVID disruptions. Whether building a pergola or buying a car, everyone
across the nation has felt it. Every company involved in building projects has
felt it. We are proud to be delivering enhanced public transport to Western Australians.
The Leader of the Opposition already
launched one election policy last week, and I think he said that the cost of
his policy would be $150 million, but it is actually $560 million.
Mr R.H. Cook : That is a bit
of a blowout!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : That is
within a week, and it is not even delivering anything; it is just making a commitment.
The Leader of the Opposition has had a 500 per cent increase in the cost of his
commitment in a week, and he has not even delivered anything. We are proud of
delivering public transport across the state. Do members know what? I go out there. I went doorknocking on the
weekend. What are people saying? They love the fact that we are delivering infrastructure in the state like never before. They love the fact that there
are new projects coming online—people across
the state. Whether it is new roads or new rail, they love it. The Leader of the
Opposition can be as negative as he
likes. He can support the RBA and its pressure on interest rates, but we are on
the side of WA families, supporting cost-of-living initiatives across
the state.
