South West Interconnected System—Demand assessment
77. Hon Dr Steve Thomas to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I refer to the SWIS Demand Assessment 2023 to 2042 last released
in May 2023.
(1) Is the May 2023 version of the South West
Interconnected System demand assessment the latest version?
(2) If no to (1), what is the latest version and
when was it released, and, if yes to (1), when will an updated SWISDA be
released?
(3) If yes to (1), what has changed in demand
since May 2023, when the government announced the closure of the state coal
generation fleet?
(4) Is the existing SWISDA up to date and
applicable to the current demand modelling?
(5) What is the current SWIS demand assessment of
required renewable demand?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following response has
been provided by the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation.
(1)–(5) The SWIS demand assessment was a
point in time assessment of future demand, based on market conditions and
industry input. Annual updates to demand forecasts are published in the
Australian Energy Market Operator's Wholesale
Electricity Market Electricity Statement of Opportunities , released in June
each year.
