MAIN ROADS
AMENDMENT BILL — TOLL ROADS
969. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Leader
of the National Party:
I refer to the introduction of the Main Roads Amendment Bill
by the government, which will allow for toll roads in Western Australia and for
Main Roads to compulsorily acquire land.
(1) Did National Party cabinet ministers exclude themselves
from the cabinet decision on these laws?
(2) Will the
Leader of the National Party and his members support the passage of this
legislation as introduced into the Parliament?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for the question.
(1)–(2)
My National Party colleagues have had a couple of issues in the meetings and
briefings they have had on the bill to which the Leader of the Opposition
referred. One was around the power to put in place toll roads without a process
that might go through disallowance in Parliament, or some sort of ministerial
process, and also the issues around compulsorily acquiring land. We have been
in discussions with the Minister for Transport and he has undertaken that those
issues will be worked through as and when the bill works its way through the
house.
