TEACHERS — PHYSICAL ASSAULTS
Given the $60 fine imposed on a parent who broke a teacher’s nose in an assault—the decision came down this week—does the minister believe that teachers deserve the same protection under law as police officers? Dr E. CONSTABLE

That is a very interesting question. I seem to remember that the other side did not support police in mandatory reporting. Mr E.S. Ripper : We moved an amendment to include teachers. You rejected it. Mr R.F. Johnson : You didn’t support the legislation. The SPEAKER : I am sure the minister does not need assistance from either side of the house. The question has been asked of her. Ms M.M. Quirk : The Attorney General is refreshing her memory. The SPEAKER : Member for Girrawheen, I call you formally for the first time. Dr E. CONSTABLE : I was very disappointed with that $60 fine. I would hope that the full force of the existing laws would be brought to bear in any case of a teacher having been assaulted.
