(1) Yes. (2) The current passenger demand on Northern Suburbs services at peak times takes up the entire railcar capacity. Therefore, it is not possible to satisfy the additional demand created by Greenwood Station without additional railcars. Tenders are now being prepared for the acquisition of new rollingstock to accommodate all the extensions planned both north and south of the river. The first batch of these cars will be used to accommodate the demand created by the Clarkson extension and the new station at Greenwood. It is planned to have sufficient cars to commence these services in September 2003. (3) There is no point in completing the new Greenwood Station before we have sufficient railcars to service the demand. The Greenwood Station has therefore been incorporated within the Perth Urban Rail Development (PURD) Project, which is managing the acquisition of railcars and the infrastructure required for both the Mandurah and Clarkson extensions. The program being developed by the PURD team shows that the Greenwood Station will be completed by June 2003, just prior to introduction of the new railcars.
