YARRAGADEE AQUIFER - ALTERNATIVE PROPOSAL
I have a supplementary question. Does the minister agree that the environmental implications of the Yarragadee proposal are now becoming an acceptable consequence because the government failed to provide a timely alternative to the proposal? Mr J.C. KOBELKE

AnswerView source ↗

I think I just answered that. The government is progressing a desalination plant to produce 45 gigalitres of water. If we proceed with the south west Yarragadee, the very earliest we could have the water is the end of 2009. The earliest another source of 45 gigalitres could be brought on-stream - there are a number of smaller sources - would be 2011. The basis of the member’s question has no substance.
