(1) I refer to the Premier’s reported remarks in the
Southern Gazette
of 24 July that Curtin University has 50,000 transport movements a day and many students will choose to catch the train to Canning Bridge each day and then pick up a bus to the University and ask will the Premier confirm that such a statement is based on reputable research data in the hands of his departments?
(2) If so, will the Premier indicate the source?
(3) Will the Premier table the source?
(4) Will the Premier provide details or estimates of the many students who will choose to act in this way?
(5) If not, why not?

The Bentley Technology Precinct Transport Planning Study 1997 found that over 30,000 people travel to and from the area each working day. It is estimated that travel to and from the precinct will increase by more than 50% during the next decade. The journey time to/from Perth on the Freeway route when compared to the route via Kenwick is significant. The journey time from Thomson's Lake to Perth would reduce from 28 minutes to 16 minutes, Rockingham to Perth from 45 minutes to 33 minutes and Mandurah to Perth from 60 minutes to 48 minutes. It is known that improved journey times and increased frequency of services will result in increased patronage. The original patronage demand modelling underpinning the patronage forecasts revealed that the elasticity of demand to changes in journey times is in the range of 0.54 – 0.63. This means if there is an improvement in frequency and journey time of 10% there would be an increase in patronage of 5.4% to 6.3%. What is most important is the further modelling that is to be carried out in preparing the Supplementary Master Plan for the Direct Route.
